I am constantly asked what my recommendations are for social media metrics. I put together this map of some of my favorite metrics. Feel free to download and use for your convenience. Also, if you would like to republish this map, please link back to Ja-Nae.net.
Here is a list of those metrics and what they mean:
- Deliverability Rate- Are you even making it into the inbox?
- Open Rate- How many people are opening your email?
- List Growth- Are you retaining and growing your list?
- Content- Which content is being clicked on?
- Conversion Rate- How many generate leads or sales?
- Forwarding- How many people are forwarding your email message to a friend?
- Trends:- Why do people actually open your emails? Which topics are they trending on?
Website/Blog
- Subscribers- How many RSS subscribers do you have?
- Feed Readers- How many feed readers pick up your blog?
- RSS Revenue- How much are you earning through your RSS feed?
- Site Revenue- How much are you earning through your website?
- Social Bookmarks – How many social bookmarks do you have? Which content is bookmarked the most?
- Inbound Links – How many other websites are linking back to your site?
- Content – Which blog posts receive the most traffic?
- Guest posts - Of your guest bloggers, which author seems to drive the most traffic?
- Comments - How many folks comment on your blog posts? How many of these comments are from first time visitors? Are these thoughtful engagements?
- Visits - How many folks visit your site per day? How long do they stay and how many pages to they view? Which page did they exit from?
- Bounce Rate: How low is your bounce rate?
- Google rank - What pages are ranking high on Google?
- Alexa rank: What is your Alexa ranking?
- Keywords – Which keywords are generating the most traffic to your site? Are those keywords relevant?
- TweetMeMe- How many times has your blog post been tweeted?
- Friends and Fans – How many fans do you have on your Facebook Page?
- Comments – How many comments are you getting and what are they commenting on?
- Facebook likes – What articles do people like the most?
- Clicks: How many click-throughs are you getting on your links?
- Groups: How many people have joined your group?
- Insights (for Fan Pages):
- Types of fan interactions with the Page
- Active fans this week
- Total interactions this week
- Post quality rating, from 1 to 5 stars.
- Stream CTR
- Page views
- Media Consumption
Podcasts
- Views: How many people have listened to your podcast?
- Subscribers: How many have subscribed to your podcast?
- Conversion Rate: How many listeners have been added to your sales funnel?
- Followers- How many people are following you on Twitter?
- Twitter lists- How many Twitter lists are you on?
- ReTweets- How many times is your message being rebroadcasted?
- Clicks- How many clicks are you getting on your links?
- Engagements: How many people are commenting and questioning your tweets?
- Favorites: How many of your tweets are marked as a favorite?
- Hashtag: How many times was your hashtag used in a Tweet?
Video
- Views: How many people have viewed your video?
- Comments: How many people have commented on your video?
- Subscribers: How many subscribers does your video channel have?
- Connections: How many 1st and 2nd degree connections do you have?
- Comments: How many people are commenting on your status?
- Recommendations: How many people are recommending you?
- Groups: How many people have joined your group?
- Stars: How many people have starred your answer to a question?
Groups/Forums/Other Social Sites (Yahoo, Google, Ning, Myspace):
- Active Members: How many active members do you have within your group?
- Engagements: How many engagements do you have within the group on a daily and weekly basis?
- Clicks: How many clicks to your website did you receive?
- Rates and Reviews: How many ratings and reviews did you/your company receive?
- Keywords – Which of your keywords lead to a chat interaction?
- Engagements-How many engagements did you have?
- Conversions – How many engagements led to a sale or growth in list?
- Keywords – Which of your keywords is leading your page ranking?
- Subscribers-How many subscribers do you have?
- Views – How many views do you have?
Social Bookmarking:
- Button views – The number of times the sharing icon (button) was viewed on the site.
- Bookmarks – The number of bookmark events.
- Bookmark rate – The number of bookmarks divided by button views.
- Diggs and votes- How many people liked your content?
- Keyword Tags- Which words are people using to category your content?
- Referrals from Site- How many clicks are you receiving from these bookmarking sites?
- Likes – How many people like your posts?
- Engagements –How many engagements are you having?
- Followers-How many followers do you have?
- Shared Readers-How many people are reading your shared items on your Google Reader?

Social Media is all still very new to me. As a small business owner, I already feel overwhelmed by everything that I have to do. Then to add social media on top of it. It was a little too much to take. This list of social media metrics helps put it into a better perspective.
