Challenge: Marketing to Unconventional Demographic
Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer affecting about 30 per 1,000,000 people each year. It is usually caused by exposure to asbestos. Unfortunately, the signs and symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear until 20 to 50 years after exposure. With Sokolove Law’s target demographic over 60 years old, the law firm needed help connecting with their online audience and finding a unique and unconventional way of educating the public about the dangerous of mesothelioma.
Solution: Building Personal Connections with a Ban Asbestos Campaign and MesoRC.com
Led by Ja-Naé, the team focused on sales and lead generation with a reputation for creating imaginative, one-of-a-kind marketing programs that build brands and increase visibility for clients. Ja Naé listened to specific challenges the company was having in reaching their target demographic and the obstacles that they had to overcome. This led to a realization that Sokolove.com need to associate a personality to each of their product in order to build a personal connection with their audience. Ja Naé worked with the Sokolove team to create a unique marketing solution that addressed this challenge.
The “Ban Asbestos” campaign was designed to increase public involvement and awareness by focusing on the social challenges of asbestos while adding real personalities to their products that connected with their audience. The large outreach campaign was launched via a new website and social media outlets and included a letter-writing campaign, stories from sufferers of asbestos-related illnesses, and a video contest.

The “Ban Asbestos” video contest encouraged young people to get involved creatively by directing their own videos about the dangerous of asbestos and uploading them to the “Ban Asbestos” website. Users could vote on their favorite video which received a cash price and film festival acclaim.
In addition to building a more personal connection with their target demographic, Sokolove also needed to position itself as a trusted information resource center for families dealing with mesothelioma. Ja-Naé worked with the Sokolove team to create MesoRC.com, a site where the families of mesothelioma victims could learn about exposure to asbestos, living with mesothelioma, and the legal options available to them. MesoRC.com has an on-site social worker available to provide live assistance. The resource center became a huge success and MesoRC.com even earned a nomination for a Webby Award.

Results: Public Involvement and Recognition
• 561 people signed up for the letter-writing campaign.
• 11 videos from users that could be repurposed for additional marketing.
• MesoRC.com was nominated for a Webby Award.
• 532 Twitter followers. 690 Tweets. 28 Lists.
• 1019 “Likes” on Facebook.
• New website has an Alexa ranking of 192,559 with over 30 in-bound links.
The results of the “Ban Asbestos” campaign showed a high level of public involvement and interest. This involvement, along with the MesoRC.com resource site, helped educate the public and spread the word about the dangers of mesothelioma which translated to more leads and client revenue for Sokolove Law.

Building Personal Connections was the Main Thrust of the Marketing Campaign
Zyrra Custom Bras Case Study
In an industry caught up in an old and outdated business model and sizing model, Zyrra is intent on revolutionizing the bra experience by changing the way women feel about bra shopping and making bras that are uniquely designed fit each individual women. To engage women on a personal level, Zyrra uses a direct sales force to actively market their custom-designed bras and improve the bra shopping experience.
Challenge: Ineffective Marketing Strategy
While Zyrra strongly believed in their product, they lacked a strong marketing campaign to reach buyers and attract consultants. Their emailing list had few subscribers, was issued sporadically, and failed to engage readers. The Zyrra website was outdated and targeting a much older demographic than they were looking to reach. Efforts in social media were mild and failed to gain any traction.
Solution: Focus on Engaging Buyers and Consultants
Ja Naé Duane Ventures is a marketing consulting company with experience in forming strategic partnerships and building effective marketing programs using social media. Ja Naé Duane worked with the Zyrra team to understand their business model and their current marketing efforts. This resulted in the realization that Zyrra was broadcasting their message instead of engaging their target audience.
Ja Naé developed a three-month marketing program to rebrand Zyrra in a way that focused on engagement and involvement by utilizing social media platforms. The program began with a half-day rebranding session that articulated and unified the Zyrra mission and message. Armed with new clarity, the team worked to create a new web presence, add a winter photoshoot, create more events, and use social media to engage potential buyers and consultants online. A revitalized emailing list was sent every week and a half to train subscribers to receive information from the company.

A Twitter account and company blog was created with a program on how they would be used and directed. Since all the Zyrra consultants already had Facebook accounts, Ja Naé encouraged them to set up a private group to use as a vehicle for communication, goal setting, brainstorming, coaching, and peer accountability.
But instead of focusing entirely on direct sales like most companies in this industry, Ja Naé encouraged a two-tiered approach to sales that focused on both the e-commerce site and direct sales from consultants. The Zyrra website was redesigned on WordPress and Magento to better integrate with social media outlets. Promotions were tested on the homepage, email, and through social media.
The redesigned Zyrra website (above right) succeeded in attracting a younger demographic and boosting ecommerce sales.
Result: Engaged Customers, Increased Sales
• Website redesign and social media surge attracted over 550 new visitors and leads.
• Website went from virtually zero ranking to having 16 in-bound links and an Alexa rank of 627,759 in 2 months of marketing strategy.
• By reaching out to build partnerships with new consultants, the number of Zyrra consultants doubled.
• Company profits reached a record high.
Zyrra’s Twitter account engaged and involved followers which helped increase the number of direct sales consultants.
By focusing more on engaging the audience and involving them in the discussion rather than broadcasting to them, Zyrra was able to build incredible interest from both bra buyers while also energizing a larger and more effective direct sales team. Ja Naé’s efforts resulted in a record high in company profits without increasing the Zyrra’s marketing budget.

“Every once in a while you meet someone who releases such energy around them that you just can’t help responding. That was my first impression of Ja-Naé. She has a special talent that connects with people. I first met Ja-Naé at a New England Direct Marketing Association event, we were seated at the same table. Listening to her speak, one can’t help but notice the charisma she generates. Ja-Naé had everyone completely engaged and focused, with her personal experiences about how she grew her own company Wild Women Entrepreneurs using today’s integrated e-marketing tools. As a social media strategist consultant she offers a wide range of knowledge from a very experienced and charismatic person.”
“I worked with Ja-Nae on an advocacy project utilizing social media and online tools and found her to be insightful, forward-thinking and interactive. She is a great brainstorming partner for any project – offline or online- and has a keen ability to find hidden audiences and unique avenues for reaching them.”
