Revolution! Solutions: Your 5 Minute Spotlight

solution revolution

Revolution! Solutions Contest for March: Your 5 Minute Spotlight: People talk about change. They talk about how restless they are, how conditions are intolerable, how something must be done. They stamp their feet and holler and let anger, resentment, and disillusion fill their heads. And when the pressure has been building long enough and enough people are riled up, there is rebellion, revolution, dissent. This is usually the end result of something that’s been long overdue. But then what?  Most people don’t plan for the end. They get caught up in a wave of emotion or swept away in a tide of personal attachment. They know something must change, but they’ve no idea what to do if that change actually were to take place. They have nothing to fill the vacuum. So what about you? Imagine, for this exercise, that you actually got five minutes – before the President, a legislative committee, the mayor, the town council, the board of trustees – to convince them of the importance and validity of your project. Is there something in your town that’s an injustice? Is there a crisis that the locals are dealing with that you wish you could escalate to someone [...]

The Revolution Roadtrip Call for City Ambassadors

“The history of the human race always has been, and most likely always will be, that of evolution and revolution.” LEWIS F. KORNS, Thoughts Do you hear the rumbling of mighty drums? Do you feel the hum in the air as the storm builds? Do you burn to run into the fray and carry the torch while others run for cover? Are you already sowing the seeds of revolution in your own community? Good. We want you. Got something that demands action in your community? It’s time to act. Now more than ever you have the opportunity to affect change on a great scale. And now more than ever, your people and your cause are ready to find their voice. This is the call. Will you answer? We need people to: -give us the big picture on the pulse and culture of your community -provide us with intel on local issues that need to be addressed or expressed -show us how we can get involved -mobilize other revolutionaries so we can hear their ideas and enlist their talents. -help us get around -secure food and lodging -serve as beacons in the community after the trip is over Many hands make [...]

Revolution! Solutions: The Fall of Healthcare

the revolution love revolution

As I mention in my post a few weeks ago, this month launches Revolution!,  an interactive transmedia project that will empower each and every one of us to help facilitate change in some way, no matter how small. Whether its change at home, in your community, globally or just within you- you will have the tools you need to be the change you wish to see in the world. Part of this project is Revolution! Solutions, a 30 day collaborative exchange of ideas around a specific storyline. We are all in this together and the more we brainstorm solutions, the more likely we will be to find solutions that work! So, let the game begin. What if….. <2011 – the first of the Baby Boomers becomes eligible for MediCare and begins the cycle Gerontologist’s coined, “The Silver Tsunami”. <2015 – the hospital and emergency medical systems in the major cities feel the strain and suffer under a critical shortage of competent staff and teachers to train them. <2019 – the pharmaceutical industry reels from prescription drug benefits in the MediCare package. Their answer is a rate hike that leads to a 40% increase for all medications sold across the board. <2021 [...]

13+ Tips You Must Know to Avoid Looking Like a Tourist

adventure travel janae tourist

A Kodak moment can capture a memory in time, but more often than not, tourists take unnecessary pictures of attractions that a million other tourists have already photographed. The camera can be a mental barrier between seeing something and experiencing something. Ask yourself, am I here to experience a new culture or am I here to have a new picture to show off on my Facebook page?

The Revolution! Roadtrip: Who’s Coming?

Last week I announced Revolution! – a transmedia project designed to help empower ordinary people facilitate small or great changes to improve their community or even the world we live in.  Revolution! will kick off in February and gear up for The Revolution Roadtrip on March 4. The Revolution Roadtrip leaves from Boston and stops at various US cities before arriving at Austin for the SXSW conference.  After the conference, we’ll hit other cities on the way back before returning to Boston for our Welcome Home Party.  At every city we stop in, we will work to create content and social good that promotes change and inspires others to take action to step up and realize that they can change their environments for the better. Our destination is South by Southwest (SXSW) an annual series of film, interactive and music festivals.  Over the years, SXSW has earned a reputation as a breeding ground for new thought innovations and creative technologies from the brightest entrepreneurs.  Industry leaders, world-class speakers and emerging technology pioneers mingle and share ideas while networking to promote change.  Trendsetting musicians converge from all over the globe at SXSW to share their brilliant talents with hundreds of musical [...]

The Revolution: How You can Help!

children of the revolution

Life has a funny way of teaching us the lessons we are supposed to learn. As I strolled through the silent snowy streets today, I realized that these lessons I have learned over the passed few months were always there waiting for me. I had to laugh out loud (and then looked around to see if anyone saw this woman walking in the middle of the street laughing to herself), because life is so simple that sometimes we forget. We forget what we are suppose to learn, but also what we’re meant to teach others. So, it’s time. Each of us have the power to change the world. Everything you do sets the course for a series of events. Some will directly impact you and some will not. But they still come from you. And that is why I need your help. Starting in February, I’m launching Revolution! Revolution! is an interactive transmedia project that will empower each and every one of us to help facilitate change in some way, no matter how small. Whether its change at home, in your community, globally or just within you- you will have the tools you need to be the change you wish [...]

Creative Strategy: Learning the Benefits of Travel and Living Abroad

Creativity strategies, creative strategy, creativity explored, creativity brain , the creative mind

My surrogate sister, Sara, has been over in China studying and teaching for about a year and a half now. Her experience of acclimating into another culture made me curious to see what creative benefits there are to living aboard. In Psychology Time’s article,”Can living abroad make you more creative,” Art Markman asks just that: The idea here is that when you go to a different culture, there are often subtle differences that you have to learn about. For example, in the US, if you go to someone’s house and they offer you a drink or snack, you respond “Yes” or “No” depending on whether you want a snack. In Russia, though, it is impolite to say “Yes” the first time something is offered, and so you refuse the first request. The host asks again, and after a brief negotiation, you may settle on having a snack. A Russian visiting the US for the first time might refuse the offer of a snack, only to be surprised that she is not asked a second time. Eventually, she must learn that the practices are different.
