All my life, I have paved my own path-a true entrepreneur, I know. From performing to ministry to starting businesses, I’ve done what feels right. I have always followed my gut. Of course, along the way, I’ve looked for roles models to continue to inspire me.

I never look for someone who has done exactly what I’m looking to do , but someone who has been absolutely true to themselves. Katharine Hepburn is one of those people.

In an ode to a fellow May Baby and Connecticut raised rebel, here are 10 Life Lessons from Katharine Hepburn:

1. Live Fearlessly: Katharine had no fear or if she did, she wouldn’t show it. She was known to do her own pratfalls in films and would even go hunting with Humphrey Bogart on days off while filming The African Queen.

“Life is to be lived. If you have to support yourself, you had bloody well better find some way that is going to be interesting. And you don’t do that by sitting around.”

2. Stay Active: A tom boy at heart, Katharine was always physically active and attributed her long life to her swimming, riding, golfing and tennis. She swam regularly up through her early eighties.

“I never lose sight of the fact that just being is fun.”

3. Break the Rules: This woman was known to live by her own rules. She would wear men’s suits to interviews because she believed them to be more comfortable. Whether she realized it or not, she was setting an example for other women of her era.

“Dressing up is a bore. At a certain age, you decorate yourself to attract the opposite sex, and at a certain age, I did that. But I’m past that age.”

4. Know Your Worth: While being considered for “A Bill of Divorcement,” Hepburn demanded $1500 a week (mind you, she was only making $100 a week at that time). To her surprise, she got it.

“Never complain. Never explain.”

5. Be Yourself: We know and cherish this incredible actress because she refused to be anything other than herself. When we are being pulled in 8 million directions, it is a nice reminder that this is our life and we decide how we live it.

“If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun.”
